About Our Library

Cheyenne High School Library Media Center offers many resources and services to enhance each student’s educational experience, promote information literacy, and support the common core standards for 21st-century learners.

Print Resources

Cheyenne High School Library Media Center houses reading materials such as non-fiction books with informational text about people, places, events, and cultures that support our math, English, reading, electives, science, IB, CTE, and social studies classes as well as collections that include fiction novels in various reading Lexile levels and genres. According to a TitleWise Collection Analysis, the recommended number of titles per student in a library collection is two and we are fortunate to have 5.3 per student. Our collection contentiously grows through CCSD funds that are allotted to the school library and funds earned through monies collected for late fees, copy services, and fundraisers. We are constantly on the lookout for new titles to add to the collection. Make sure to stop in and suggest high school-appropriate books that you would like to see added.

Digital Resources

Students have access to desktop computers and student-issued Chromebooks for their online learning and research needs. They can use them to access the internet, software programs, word processing, desktop publishing, testing, and video/photo editing assignments. Web-based programs are also an option for our 21st-century learners and allow them to create digital projects from home or school through the use of an account. We have a growing eBook collection with thousands of titles that students access through Follett Destiny Discover and the Axis 360 app (found on the Destiny Discover webpage). We also have 65-inch Smart TVs, ceiling-mounted LCD projectors, and computers with 65-inch monitors that allow devices to connect to the monitors for collaborative projects. These collaborative spaces comfortability seat students and are nestled within the library shelves for privacy.

Databases

The library subscribes to several online databases which can be accessed through direct links in the Databases and eResources section with the use of a password. Students are given usernames/passwords through their classroom Canvas pages or by visiting the library for a link to the form. Our online databases come from scholarly sources and include information from newspapers, references, magazines, books, and journals. Please use these resources for any research and learning needs at school or at home.

Copy Services

We offer copy services. Black and white copies cost $.25 per page and color copies are $.50 per page. All copies are defaulted to double-sided to save money and resources. If you need single-sided copies, be sure to select that in the More Settings section of the Print page. The library only accepts cash for copies. Please bring the exact cost for them, as we do not carry change.

Checkout Policy

An unlimited amount of books can be checked out for four weeks. You can access the Follett Destiny Discover app via. Clever to see what you have checked out and when it is due. Books can be renewed one time. A late fee of $.10 per book per day will be accessed (not to exceed $5.00). If a student has overdue library book(s), textbook(s), and/or technology or late fees from Palo or any other CCSD school, they will not be allowed to check out another book or technology item until it is returned and any associated fees are paid for. Once a quarter overdue, library notices are emailed to all students and seniors will be emailed notices monthly. Overdue materials/fines transfer from school to school and CCSD librarians work together to collect books and fines. See the Palo Webstore on our website if you have a fine or fee to pay. All fines, fees, and materials need to be returned and/or paid in order to graduate so please try to take care of these as soon as you can. If the fine is not paid, you will not be able to attend extracurricular activities such as dances, and out-of-town travel.

Webstore Fines and Fees

To pay the fines you will need to go to the banker’s office  Any questions about another school’s fine you will need to contact that school for information.

You can return any items you have for Cheyenne High School: technology and Library books go to the Library, technology equipment to the Site Based Technicians (SBT's), and all other items are to be returned to the Advisor or Coach it came from. Textbooks get returned to the teacher or department chairperson that issued that book. You do not need to return JRotc uniforms unless you are no longer in the class. Technology from other schools needs to be returned to the school that it belongs to.
